John Holroyd
Railway Archive
Report - J.G.Virco
Our usual room was not available (having been pre-booked for a conference) but the substitute venue better suited our needs with a larger screen and better layout. Our guest speaker was John Holroyd but before the slide show got under way, Stanley King mentioned the PTE’s visit to Solingen and Arnhem, the Minitram on trial in Bradford and also the new book on Halifax Trams (then at the printers).
John Holroyd was born and raised in Derbyshire and the Cromford and High Peak Railway left a lasting impression with him. John’s scale model layout of the railway became the subject of a feature article in an enthusiasts Magazine. For our evening, John brought the line back to life with a mixture of archive and more recent photographs taken by John, with slides of his water colours complimented by maps. Of particular interest was the cable-hauled incline and fastening of the trucks to the cable. Our thanks are offered to John for a very interesting evening.
