Report - J.G.Virco

Tony Wilson did us proud as usual and what a varied selection of film clips to entertain us; - David Brown tractors at Huddersfield, the North Devon China Clay Railway in 1969, the narrow gauge Layton Buzzard railway, Pool Harbour, NCB Lines - Standard and narrow gauge, Horsey Main mine, Steel Works, Silverdale Colliery, Bowater Paper mills, the Longmoor Military Railway 1969 — closure (Greet St. Trinians Train Robbery was filmed there), a Warship Class Diesel hauling the Royal Train, and a glimpse of a Steam Crane at work.

Then there were a few remaining commercial film giants of steam followed by the Aberystwyth cliff lift, then shots of surviving Hull and Barnsley railway coaches. It was then on to the London Midland Region with views of Birmingham Stations and Carlisle Loco Sheds. Last, but no means least, Bradford 706 on Its last days at Thornton Terminus.

Our good friend Los Hogg assisted with the raffle in place of Fred Karno, who wa on holiday. I would like to wish Los good luck with his enthusiasts group — Th AMSTA’s (Ashton, Manchester, and Salford Trolleybus Association) in support of hi proposed “Linear Trolleybus Route” to take over from phase three of Metrolink.

I have received a letter from our good friend Eric Cope, who informs me that he Will not be able to present his advertised slide show, which follows our annual general meeting on Friday May. We of course, wish him well for the future. I will endeavour to find a substitute guest speaker for that date, Alternatively, a showing of “Bradford’s Favourite Transport” would be fitting.
