John Holroyd
Narrow Gauge Railways
Report - Frank Long
Once again we wore treated to a superb presentation by John Hoiroyd. The title of this programme was Narrow Gauge Railways”. John’s presentation of superb slides and his total knowledge of his subject cannot be faulted. It is also a great pleasure to see the magnificent scenery that goes with all the train pictures.
The world of narrow gauge railways was presented in A — Z format and we visited most countries alphabetically. I will not mention them all but we started in Austria and, to note some more, Czechoslovakia, England, France, Germany, India, Isle of Man, Wales and many more (I cannot remember them all). I am certain that all those present thoroughly enjoyed the meeting and are looking forward to next year (October 14, 2005) when John will present an illustrated talk on the Cromford and High Peak Railway, Well done John!
During the meeting, it was announced that there would be a price increase as from the September meeting. The new rates would be Adults £2, Over Sixties £1.50, Visitors £2.50. Robin urged non-members to join the Association (Adults £9.00 per annum and Over Sixties £6.00) as there were obvious benefits and savings in doing so!
Also, a notice for ‘NO SMOKING” was displayed and referred to at the meeting.
