Our guest for the June meeting was Keith Preston. His film show was titled Trams and Trolleybuses. First we started in Belgium with a look at the system in Antwerp and their modern fleet. Especially interesting was the sight of a broken down tram being towed back to the depot by a Unimog tow truck which can run on both track and road. Then we go on to Brussels in the late 90’s when the town centre was being redeveloped. Then we moved onto Holland and the tram systems of Amsterdam and Rotterdam and the Trolleybuses of Arnham with the 80’s Trolleybuses running with the modern artics. Finally we had slides showing the tram system of Berlin, with the only route at the time running into West Berlin newly reopened after the Berlin wall was demolished.
A very entertaining night.
