Buses Of Yesterday - Yorkshire And Beyond
Report - J.G.Virco
Fine examples of buses covering the period from 1920’s to the early 1970’s, featuring Yorkshire Woollen District, West Riding Automobile, East Yorkshire Motor Services and its buses (designed to go through Beverley Bar), centre-entrance examples, double and single-deckers with YWD semi-luxury vehicles on express services to London and Newcastle as well as Manchester.
There were “West Ridings” on various duties and of course West Yorkshire’s alongside Samuel Ledgard’s and Yorkshire Woollen at Chester Street Bus Station with Hebble. We also saw Sheffield trams (and Blackpool’s) in better days and also Bradford trolleybuses in their final days. Bus radiators also featured and several distinguished marques were seen.
Phillip also has in interest in gas lamps and a tour of Bradford’s fine examples was also included The slide show culminated in the demolition of the chimney at Valley Road Power Station — an event witnessed by thousands. Our thanks to Phillip for a wonderful trip down memory lane!
